About AudioKissa
Rooms built for listening.
AudioKissa is a worldwide directory of listening bars, audio kissas and hi-fi cafés: places where a carefully tuned sound system and the record on the platter are the reason to visit, not the background.
What is an audio kissa?
Kissa is short for kissaten, the Japanese word for a coffee house. From the post-war decades on, Japan's jazz and audio kissa built their identity around a deep record collection and an obsessively tuned hi-fi — often big horn loudspeakers driven by valve amplifiers — and asked guests to listen rather than talk.
That idea travelled. Today, listening bars around the world pair drinks with a serious sound system and a selector who plays whole records. AudioKissa collects these rooms in one place and describes what matters most: the system you will hear.
How AudioKissa works
01
Explore
Browse the map or the full list of spaces. Filter by country and by audio properties such as tube amplification, horn loudspeakers or vinyl-only playback.
02
Open a space
Each venue page combines current details from Google Maps — address, opening hours, photos and reviews — with a Sound System section maintained on AudioKissa.
03
Save & follow
Bookmark rooms you want to visit; your collection stays in your browser. Set up an email alert to hear when a new space opens within your chosen radius.
04
Contribute
Know a room that belongs here? Register it. Operators can claim their venue page and, once an admin has reviewed the claim, keep its sound system details current.
Reading the audio icons

- Hi-Res Digital Audio
High-resolution digital playback alongside or instead of analogue.
- Custom Build
A custom or DIY-built system rather than off-the-shelf components.
- Listening Room
A room designed or treated for focused listening.
- Reel-to-Reel
Reel-to-reel tape playback.
- Audio properties unconfirmed
Nobody has confirmed this space's audio properties yet.
Where the information comes from
- Venue cards and the map are provided by Google Maps and load directly from Google, so names, addresses, photos, reviews and opening hours stay current.
- Sound system details and audio properties are maintained by verified venue owners and AudioKissa editors, each with a recorded source.
- Countries come from independent sources, such as licensed open place data or the venue's own website. Spaces without a confirmed country or name are marked as unconfirmed until someone reviews them.
